A robotic voice at a crosswalk in Denver grabbed attention over the weekend by saying, “The walk signal is on, fuck Trump,” as captured in viral videos.
The voice further alleged that Trump was responsible for the deaths of children, likely alluding to U.S. involvement in a school strike during Trump’s Iran conflict.
Damian Meldgaard, a local resident, shared his reaction with CBS Colorado, saying, “I was surprised, I had to gather myself and think, ‘Did I really hear that?’” He added, “And then I was enamored. I loved it, it made my day, it was absolutely what I wanted to hear. I kinda wanted my own recording just for my own personal sense of self-satisfaction.”
The crosswalk push-buttons were recently installed and still had their factory settings, including a default password that was reportedly easy to find online, explained Nancy Kuhn, Communications Director for the Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, according to JS.
The password has since been updated, and officials anticipate no further incidents at these locations, Kuhn mentioned.
The Denver Police Department is currently investigating the matter.
In a related incident, the public address system at Pennsylvania’s Harrisburg International Airport was similarly hacked in October to broadcast anti-Trump messages.
