The Madison has just concluded its inaugural season, sparking questions about the possibility of a second season.
The popular series by Taylor Sheridan ended on Saturday, March 21, after broadcasting six episodes over a span of two weeks. The Madison tells the story of the Clyburn family from New York City, who relocate to the Madison River valley in southwest Montana to emotionally heal after a family tragedy.
Alongside Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer, the cast includes Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, Matthew Fox, Beau Garrett, Alaina Pollack, Amiah Miller as Clyburn family members, with Ben Schnetzer, Kevin Zegers, Rebecca Spence, and Danielle Vasinova completing the cast ensemble.
Russell, 74, has already confirmed that a second season of the show has been filmed.
“I completed the second season of Monarch [Legacy of Monsters], the Apple TV show, and unfortunately, the timing coincided with Madison,” Russell explained to Entertainment Weekly in January. “There was no way to do it because I was already committed to this show.”
Sheridan and Pfeiffer, both executive producers on the series, devised a strategy to delay filming Russell’s scenes for season 1.
“Michelle Pfeiffer and Taylor coordinated with Paramount+ and proposed, ‘Let’s work on two seasons instead of just one,’” Russell recalled. “‘Before starting the second season next year, we’ll prioritize Kurt’s scenes. We want him to play the role. We’ll complete his first season first, and then proceed to the second season.’ And that’s what we did.”
Although an official announcement about season 2 is pending, Chapman, a co-star, shared on social media that production wrapped last month. Russell also confirmed that each season of The Madison will consist of six episodes.
“I truly appreciate what The Madison offers. It’s an intelligent series,” he remarked, praising Sheridan for being a “really good writer.”
“Taylor is excellent, and Michelle [Pfeiffer] is outstanding in this show. When it comes to awards, I believe Michelle will be in the spotlight,” he noted. “Everyone is really good, but Sheridan’s writing is what makes it so compelling.”
Russell added: “This is a unique show for Taylor, focusing on a female perspective. It’s extremely well-written, and I had a great time being part of it.”
The Madison is currently available for streaming on Paramount+.
