A fatal shooting on Easter Sunday left a young man dead and another critically injured after a gunman opened fire on a Brooklyn street, as revealed by surveillance footage and police reports.
Responding to a shooting report just before 6 p.m. on Fulton Street between Cleveland and Elton Street in Cypress Hills, police found the men, aged 30 and 50, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the NYPD.
Both men, whose identities have not been released, were transported to Brookdale University Medical Center. The 30-year-old succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by police.
Authorities reported detaining a person of interest related to the shooting.
Surveillance video acquired by The Post shows two men on the sidewalk beneath the elevated J train platform, standing near a group of about three individuals.
In the video, after one man appears to address the group, another in a gray jacket and light pants pulls out a firearm and fires multiple rounds at him and the other nearby man.
The shooter continued to fire at the victims even as they lay motionless on the sidewalk, the footage reveals.
As the shooter drew his weapon, a man dressed in dark clothing and white sneakers began to leave the group.
Photos later showed onlookers in shock as authorities secured the area and marked numerous shell casings.
The motivation behind the shooting and the connection between the individuals involved remain unclear. The investigation is ongoing, according to authorities.
