Following the decision on Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, the pressing question is what actions will be taken in response?
Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) addressed this issue on NBC’s Meet The Press:
It’s important to remember that there’s a cloud of corruption over the Supreme Court. Some of the justices involved in such rulings are reportedly accepting gifts from billionaires, including RVs and luxurious vacations. This is a corrupt court. It is the highest court in the land, yet it operates under the weakest ethics regulations. Secondly, the Supreme Court, within our legislative power, can be reformed — one initiative I co-lead with Senator Whitehouse and others aims to impose term limits on Supreme Court justices.
This could significantly address the issues. The Supreme Court is in dire need of reform. It is, in my opinion, a corrupt institution requiring change, and I am committed to leading these efforts.
Booker also discussed the necessary steps the nation must take to initiate court reforms.
