Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) addressed speculation about a possible presidential run in 2028, expressing that her aspirations extend far beyond that role.
“My ambition is to transform this country,” she shared with Democratic strategist David Axelrod during a discussion at the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics. “While presidents, Senate, and House seats may change hands, concepts like single-payer healthcare, a living wage, workers’ rights, and women’s rights are enduring.”
Ocasio-Cortez emphasized that her political goals are to “meet the moment,” acknowledging the constant shifts in societal conditions.
“I focus less on pursuing a specific title or position,” she explained to Axelrod. “Instead, I assess the country’s state each morning to determine what actions I can take to advance us toward a stronger, faster, and better future.”
She further stated that her choices originate from a deeply substantive place, asserting that no elite power can deter her from her commitment to serving the working class daily.
“Whether in the House, the Senate, the White House, or even from a simple cabin in upstate New York, I am dedicated to this cause,” Ocasio-Cortez concluded.
