Recent photos of aespa’s Giselle from a music show schedule have raised concerns among fans. In the images, Giselle is seen arriving with the group, dressed in a purple sweatsuit, with minimal makeup and her hair tied in a casual bun.
As these photos and clips circulated online, discussions about Giselle’s appearance quickly spread on social media and forums. Many netizens observed that Giselle looked noticeably slimmer compared to previous public appearances. Some speculated about potential hair thinning, with a few users suggesting her weight loss seemed more drastic than during earlier promotional periods.
The discussion sparked mixed reactions online. While some fans debated whether such comments constituted excessive scrutiny of the idol’s appearance, many expressed concern for Giselle’s health. One netizen commented,
“Is she okay???? She doesn’t look healthy,”
Concerned fans continued to voice their worries, questioning the pressure idols face to maintain extremely thin physiques. Some argued that while discussions about body image are sensitive, such visible changes should not be normalized or seen as trends.
Others pointed out that Giselle has previously faced body-shaming and harsh criticism online when she appeared healthier. Fans highlighted that idols often encounter negative comments regardless of their appearance, with harassment continuing even after changes in their weight.
aespa’s pre-release track WDA featuring G-DRAGON records strong global chart performance ahead of LEMONADE release
aespa launched their upcoming second full-length album LEMONADE with the pre-release single WDA (Whole Different Animal) on Monday, May 11. The track features BIGBANG’s leader G-DRAGON.
WDA (Whole Different Animal) is a dance track characterized by heavy bass and synth-driven instrumentals, integrating hip-hop elements. The song includes lyrics in both Korean and English, with G-DRAGON contributing a rap segment in the third verse.
In conjunction with the digital release, aespa also premiered the official music video for the track. The visual delves into themes of identity and the blurred lines between reality and the digital realm. Throughout the video, replicas of the group’s four members multiply, creating a distorted environment where authenticity and illusion are difficult to distinguish. By the video’s conclusion, the members overcome the chaos and reclaim their identities.
According to a report by THE CHOSUN Daily, WDA (Whole Different Animal) has performed strongly on several international music platforms. The song entered the Top 10 of Apple Music’s Top Songs charts in 17 regions, including Thailand, Portugal, Singapore, and Brazil.
In China, the track achieved significant results on QQ Music, reportedly surpassing 250,000 yuan in sales and earning a Gold Album certification. The release also ranked highly across multiple categories on the platform, including digital album sales, music video rankings, and Tencent Music’s integrated K-pop chart.
The group announced their upcoming album LEMONADE in April. The project serves as a follow-up to their 2024 EP Whiplash, which reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart. LEMONADE is set for release on May 29.
After the album’s launch, aespa will embark on their fourth world tour, SYNK: COMPLæXITY, beginning with two concerts in Seoul on August 7. The tour will then continue across various cities in Asia, North America, and Europe.
