Brandy has urged her fans to treat each other with more kindness in a powerful message about body positivity.
The Cinderella star, 47, shared on Instagram on Saturday, July 11, “I’ve learned that forming an opinion about someone’s appearance takes just a moment, but understanding their journey takes a lifetime. Let’s be gentler with one another, not because we are fragile, but because everyone carries a story unseen.”
In her open letter, she pondered the true essence of beauty in today’s social media era.
“Perhaps we’ve been searching for beauty in the wrong places: in youth, in perfection, in approval, in bodies that don’t change and faces that don’t age,” she noted. “But life isn’t meant to leave us unscathed. It shapes, humbles, and refines us. Every season marks us, and perhaps that’s where real beauty lies—not in avoiding change, but in becoming through it.”
The “Boy Is Mine” singer, who has a daughter named Sy’rai, 24, with ex Robert “Big Bert” Smith, advised fans that “the world will always be tempted to judge people by appearances.”
“But love has never been about the surface. Love sees the complete person,” she expressed. “I’ve stopped trying to earn my reflection. I’ve stopped asking the mirror to define me. I know who I am, and that knowledge provides a freedom no opinion can take away.”
Brandy concluded her message, hoping her insights would impact potential body-shamers.
“Before speaking about someone’s body or face, or deciding who they are based on what you see, remember you’re looking at someone’s child, friend, dream, life, and soul,” she emphasized. “And souls have always been more beautiful than appearances.”
Brandy also showcased a series of striking photos of herself in a gold outfit, featuring a netted coverup and hoop earrings.

Her post came a few months after Brandy had to cut short a performance in Chicago on October 18, 2025, during The Boy Is Mine Tour with fellow singer Monica. She later reassured fans about her well-being before resuming the tour the next night.
“I sincerely apologize for ending last night’s show in Chicago abruptly. After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, I experienced dehydration and the sensation of wanting to faint,” she shared on Instagram. “Everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my health was essential.”
She continued, “I still decided to give my all despite feeling unwell. With necessary adjustments and the technical nature of the show, it became impossible to fully synchronize with the production. I truly appreciate everyone’s efforts.”
In March, Brandy celebrated a joyful moment as she was honored by comedian Issa Rae and producer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
