While both Canada and the United States are currently battling numerous wildfires, the situation in the US is more severe, with 467 active fires compared to Canada’s 200. Despite this, Donald Trump and Republicans are directing blame at Canada.

On Friday, Trump shared his thoughts on Truth Social:
We are holding Canada responsible for failing to properly maintain their forests and brush, which results in the United States being inundated with filthy, polluted, and unhealthy air. This situation is dangerous and totally unacceptable! I plan to call the Prime Minister today to discuss their response. The financial implications are incalculable!
Canada has ignored basic forest management and debris removal, aware that this neglect leads to such outcomes. This is willful negligence, occurring annually, and costing the United States billions of dollars. These costs should be added to the tariffs Canada is currently paying.
Trump’s behavior increasingly resembles that of an eccentric retiree who obsessively measures the height of neighbors’ lawns.
Instead of extending support to Canada, Trump is considering imposing additional tariffs on Canadian products.
