It was announced on Friday that Dermot Mulroney will be departing NBC’s “Chicago Fire” in the forthcoming 15th season. During a recent appearance at the Flash Weekend Chicago Horror Convention, as reported by People, Mulroney discussed his decision to leave.
“I loved every minute of it. Became friends with this incredible crew of people,” Mulroney expressed. He also mentioned that the show presented him with “incredibly challenging scenes,” but he was fortunate to have an “incredible cast” supporting him.
The “My Best Friend’s Wedding” actor revealed that he has only one episode remaining in Season 15 before his character is written off. Reflecting on his time on “Chicago Fire,” he stated, “We gave it our all for two seasons.”
Mulroney added, “They wrote an incredible storyline that put me as an actor on [a] high challenge. I loved every minute of it. Sad to see it go.”
Mulroney joined “Chicago Fire” in its 13th season as Chief Dom Pascal. His departure is anticipated to occur early in Season 15, which is set to premiere on October 7 at 9 p.m. ET.
“I can’t tell you how many people come up, and they’d much rather have an autograph on ‘Scream VI,’ but [they ask for] Chief Pascal for their dad,” he shared later. “It’s an amazing thing to see and that’s how meaningful that is. Which makes it that much more, I won’t say bittersweet. It’s bitter to have to leave that.”
Mulroney’s departure from “Chicago Fire” was announced just days after it was disclosed that original cast member Joe Miñoso would also be leaving the series. Miñoso’s character, firefighter Joe Cruz, will also be written off in Season 15.
