Lionel Richie’s concert in San Francisco was unexpectedly postponed on Thursday night due to a medical emergency involving a member of Earth, Wind & Fire. Fans were left waiting outside the Chase Center just minutes before the show was scheduled to begin.

The arena announced the delay shortly after 7:20 p.m., mere minutes before the concert’s 7:30 p.m. start time. The emergency pertained to a band member, though specific details about the person’s identity, condition, and the nature of the incident were not disclosed immediately.

According to a statement from the Chase Center, “Tonight’s show with Lionel Ritchie will be rescheduled, with a new date to be announced soon.” They advised ticket holders to keep their tickets, which would be valid for the rescheduled date, or to seek refunds at the point of purchase.

It remains uncertain whether Earth, Wind & Fire’s part of the concert will also be rescheduled.

The concert was planned to take place at the Chase Center, the $1.4 billion arena home to the Golden State Warriors, located in San Francisco’s Mission Bay area.

Previously, Richie canceled two concerts in June after experiencing a dizzy spell onstage, which led to his hospitalization.

The Chase Center, located at 1 Warriors Way, opened in September 2019. It was funded entirely by the Warriors ownership group and private investors, using no public taxpayer money.
