Steven Yeun has been confirmed to take on the leading role in the forthcoming Netflix supernatural drama “Pagans,” according to Variety.
The series was initially announced last year as a straight-to-series order amidst significant competition. The storyline centers on a man, portrayed by Yeun, who must care for his two children following the tragic death of his wife. While his son appears to be typical, his daughter, Alice, is quite the opposite. Their initially strained father-daughter relationship soon takes a dark and sinister turn.
“Pagans” is the creation of Joshua Zetumer, known for “Say Nothing,” who will also act as showrunner and executive producer. Executive production is further bolstered by Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg through Goddard Textiles, along with Jonathan van Tulleken and Erica Kay. Yeun and Christina Oh will also serve as executive producers for Celadon Pictures.
Yeun’s return to Netflix marks another collaboration, following his successful role in the debut season of “Beef” alongside Ali Wong. For his performance in “Beef,” Yeun received both the Emmy and Golden Globe awards for best actor in a limited series and shared in the show’s Emmy win for best limited series. He also appeared in Netflix films like “The Rip” and Bong Joon Ho’s “Okja,” and contributed his voice to the animated series “Tuca & Bertie,” which also featured Wong.
Yeun gained widespread recognition for his role in “The Walking Dead,” where he was a mainstay for six seasons. Presently, he voices the lead character in Amazon’s animated series “Invincible.” In 2021, Yeun earned an Oscar nomination for his leading role in “Minari” and has appeared in films such as “Nope,” “Mickey 17,” and “Burning.”
Yeun is represented by CAA and Hansen Jacobson.
