On December 9, 2014, actress Hayden Panettiere and her then-fiancé, professional boxer Wladimir Klitschko, celebrated the arrival of their daughter, Kaya Klitschko.

In a September 2015 appearance on Live With Kelly and Michael, Panettiere openly discussed her experience with postpartum depression following the birth of her daughter.

“It’s a topic that needs more discussion. Women should know they aren’t alone,” she expressed. She further explained, “There’s a lot of misunderstanding. It’s something uncontrollable, very painful, and frightening. Women need significant support.”

The following month, ABC News reported that she had chosen to seek professional treatment at a facility for her postpartum challenges.

Her representative requested, “She asks that the media respect her privacy during this time.”

In May 2016, Panettiere took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce another round of treatment in Utah, aimed at reflecting on her overall well-being.

She shared, “The postpartum depression I have been experiencing has impacted every aspect of my life,” and added, “Rather than remain stuck due to unhealthy coping mechanisms, I have chosen to take time to reflect holistically on my health and life. Wish me luck!”

Almost a year after her second treatment for postpartum depression, she revealed on Good Morning America that the experience had made her a “better mom” because she now truly values the connection.

Panettiere credited her role in Nashville, where her character also faced similar struggles, with aiding her understanding.

She elaborated, “I think it helped me identify what was going on. It shows women that it’s OK to seek help and to have moments of weakness. It doesn’t make you a bad person or a bad mother. It makes you a strong, resilient woman. You just have to let it empower you.”
