A violent road rage incident occurred on Long Island when Jayson Heitner, 26, allegedly slashed another motorist with a boxcutter and bit his fingers during a physical altercation. The incident took place on West Neck Road near Old Hickory Lane in Huntington, Suffolk County Police reported.

It all began when Heitner, driving a Jeep, collided with a 60-year-old Mercedes Sprinter van. Enraged, Heitner approached the other driver with a boxcutter, leading to a violent fight. He proceeded to slash the victim’s face and body and bite several of his fingers, causing severe injuries that required immediate medical attention and stitches.

Following the incident, Heitner was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, a felony. During his arraignment in First District Court, he pleaded not guilty and was ordered held on $75,000 bail or $150,000 bond.

Heitner’s attorney, Chase Brown, claimed that the altercation was initiated by the other driver, who was holding a knife and had struck Heitner’s Jeep first. Brown asserted that his client was acting in self-defense and looks forward to proving his innocence in court.

Despite the legal troubles, Heitner is pursuing a career in the medical field, studying to become a physician’s assistant and currently working as a paramedic.

The case is set to continue with Heitner’s next court appearance scheduled for Monday. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of road rage and the importance of keeping a level head while driving.
