A tragic incident has shaken the community of Azusa, California, as a 17-year-old high school cheerleader, Angelina Camillia Gonzales, was found stabbed to death just days before Christmas. The family of the victim suspects her ex-boyfriend to be responsible for the brutal murder.
According to reports from local station KABC, Gonzales’ family revealed that her ex-boyfriend had picked her up from a cheerleading banquet and brought her back to his house on December 20th. Later that night, around 10 p.m., officers from the Azusa Police Department discovered Gonzales with stab wounds. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The family shared that they were able to track Gonzales’ cell phone to her ex-boyfriend’s residence, adding to their suspicions. Angelina’s stepfather, Robert Caraballo, expressed his concerns about the relationship and had warned her to stay away from the ex-boyfriend. However, he acknowledged her kind heart and tendency to see the good in people.
A GoFundMe page set up by Gonzales’ mother, Letica Carabello, described the victim as a young woman with a promising future, set to celebrate her 18th birthday on January 7th. The family is devastated by the loss of their beloved Angelina, whom they described as having a heart of gold.
The suspect, identified as an 18-year-old acquaintance of the victim and a resident of Azusa, is currently in custody. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office mentioned that the suspect’s arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday, with the district attorney reviewing the case for filing decisions.
Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau. As the community mourns the loss of Angelina Camillia Gonzales, they seek justice for her untimely death.
Despite reaching out to the Azusa Police Department for comment, there has been no immediate response. The investigation into this tragic event continues, as the community comes to terms with the loss of a bright and promising young individual.
