A recent poll conducted by Gallup reveals that 51% of Americans approve of the way President-elect Donald Trump is handling the presidential transition.

This approval rating is slightly higher than Trump’s initial transition period, where 48% of respondents supported his handling of the transition.

Despite facing criticism for controversial cabinet picks, including former Congressman Matt Gaetz, who withdrew his nomination for the Department of Justice amid sexual misconduct allegations, Trump has been actively engaged in reacting to world events, appointing cabinet members, and outlining policy initiatives.

Public Opinion on Cabinet Picks

When it comes to Trump’s cabinet selections, 45% of Americans view them unfavorably, while 36% view them favorably, and 16% consider them “average.”

While Trump secured both the popular vote and a significant electoral college victory, he continues to be a polarizing figure with staunch critics.

Gallup’s analysis notes that Trump’s current transition approval ratings fall below those of past presidents-elect, with all incoming presidents since Bill Clinton enjoying transition approval ratings of at least 61%, typically exceeding disapproval by a wide margin.

The survey conducted by Gallup took place from December 2 to December 18.

Comparison with President Biden’s Approval Rating

Interestingly, as President Joe Biden prepares to leave office, his approval rating stands at 39% according to the latest Gallup polling data.

This data underscores the divergent public perceptions of the outgoing and incoming administrations.
