Triple H has been at the helm of WWE’s creative direction since taking over from his father-in-law Vince McMahon in July 2022. However, Vince Russo, who served as WWE’s head writer in the late 1990s, believes that The Game should consider stepping aside due to creative concerns.

Russo, known for crafting storylines during a time when RAW achieved some of its highest ratings, left WWE in 1999 to join WCW after McMahon suggested he hire a nanny to care for his children. In a recent interview on The Hannibal TV, Russo expressed doubts about Triple H’s writing abilities and raised issues regarding the three-hour weekly shows of RAW and SmackDown.

“I watch these shows and all I see are the same angles repeated over and over again and stretched out to nausea,” Russo said. “That tells me Triple H is creatively bankrupt, so he either needs to step aside and get some people in there that understand writing and know how to write a television show and understand wrestling, or else, like I said, bro, six hours of the WWE, weekly, do you know how old and boring that is gonna get?”

Russo also commented on the current dynamic between Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, and Vince McMahon, highlighting potential challenges in the creative direction of WWE programming moving forward.

Looking ahead to WrestleMania 41 in April, Russo anticipates that Triple H will have a plethora of creative options with big names like John Cena, Logan Paul, and The Rock expected to return. However, he cautioned that after the hype of WrestleMania settles, the creative challenges may resurface.

“Yeah, bro, they’ll probably be able to ride the wave from now till WrestleMania,” Russo continued. “They got Cena in their pocket, they’ll probably bring The Rock back, Logan Paul’s making a comeback. They’ll pull every rabbit out of that hat. As soon as WrestleMania’s over, bro, and that tank is empty, good luck with six hours of TV every week.”

Russo also shared his views on why he finds Roman Reigns’ Bloodline storyline to be “boring” and not as engaging as some fans perceive it to be. It remains to be seen how WWE will address these creative challenges and whether Triple H will heed Russo’s advice to potentially step aside and bring in fresh perspectives to the writing team.
