The President of the United States has issued a memorandum to key government officials outlining the need to impose maximum pressure on the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The goal is to deny Iran any path to acquiring nuclear weapons and to counter its malign influence in the region. The memorandum highlights Iran’s history of hostility towards the United States and its support for terrorist groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis.

The Iranian government, including the IRGC, has been implicated in targeting US nationals for attacks using agents and cyber-enabled means. Iran has also been involved in recent terrorist attacks and continues to pose a threat to the stability of the region. The regime has been accused of human rights abuses and arbitrary detention of foreigners, including US citizens.

The memorandum emphasizes the need to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to curtail its ballistic missile program. Iran is currently in breach of its Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty obligations and has been concealing undeclared nuclear sites. The US government is determined to deny Iran any path to nuclear weapons and to end its nuclear extortion racket.

To achieve these goals, the memorandum outlines specific actions to be taken by various government departments. The Treasury Department will impose sanctions on individuals violating Iran-related sanctions and enforce a campaign to deny revenue to the regime and its proxies. The State Department will lead diplomatic efforts to isolate Iran and drive its oil exports to zero. The Commerce Department will restrict the flow of technology and components used for military purposes by Iran.

The Attorney General will pursue legal steps to investigate and disrupt Iranian-sponsored networks in the US, impound illicit Iranian oil cargoes, and identify Iranian governmental assets for victims of terrorism to collect on Federal judgments. The memorandum also includes provisions for implementing the policy and ensuring compliance with applicable laws.

In conclusion, the memorandum underscores the national interest in imposing maximum pressure on Iran to address its nuclear threat, curtail its aggressive behavior, and counter its support for terrorism. The US government is committed to denying Iran any path to acquiring nuclear weapons and ending its destabilizing activities in the region.
