The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi for treatment. Initial reports suggesting that a woman was also injured in the incident were later found to be false, according to the NYPD.
Following the shooting, the alleged gunman barricaded himself inside an apartment within the housing project, prompting a response from the NYPD’s Hostage Units and Technical Assistance Response Units.

The standoff continued into the night as negotiators worked to resolve the situation peacefully. The exact circumstances leading up to the shooting and the motive behind the attack remain under investigation.
As the situation unfolded, residents in the area were advised to remain indoors and avoid the vicinity of the housing project. The safety of the community was a top priority for law enforcement officials as they worked to bring the standoff to a safe conclusion.
