Co-Creator of Popular “Thank You Jesus” Yard Signs Charged with Child Sex Crimes

Lucas Hunt, the co-creator of the widely recognized “Thank You Jesus” yard signs that raise funds for Christian organizations, has been arrested and charged with one count of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor. The 25-year-old from Asheboro, North Carolina, was taken into custody following an online tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Hunt is accused of receiving an explicit video involving two underage girls. The Invictus Task Force, a team that investigates internet crimes against children, initiated the investigation last month and identified Hunt as a suspect.

Hunt, who gained popularity for creating the “Thank You Jesus” signs as a teenager, was held on a $75,000 bond and appeared in Randolph County District Court. He informed the judge that he understood the charges and intends to hire legal representation. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 19.

Rise of the “Thank You Jesus” Movement

In 2016, Hunt started selling yellow yard signs with the words “Thank You Jesus” handwritten in a childlike manner. By 2017, he had sold over 100,000 signs, sparking a national movement known as the Thank You Jesus Ministry. All proceeds from the sales were dedicated to supporting local Christian organizations.

Initially, Hunt began with signs that read “Jesus is the reason for the season” in his hometown before expanding his outreach. He worked as a camp counselor for a group of children, sharing Bible stories and guiding them spiritually. The signs evolved to simply say “Thank You Jesus,” becoming a familiar sight in front yards across the country.

Impact of the Movement

Over 250,000 “Thank You Jesus” signs have been sold, along with other merchandise like car magnets, garden flags, and bracelets, as reported by the movement’s website. However, Hunt’s name has been removed from the ministry’s website, and the board is set to convene to determine his future involvement.

Constance Frazier, the president of Thank You Jesus Mission and Hunt’s co-founder in the movement, emphasized that the mission is bigger than any individual and expresses gratitude to Hunt for blessing thousands through the signs. The organization aims to continue spreading love for Jesus despite the challenges it may face.
