An ex-American Airlines flight attendant named Estes Carter Thompson III has recently pleaded guilty to a disturbing crime involving the secret recording of underage girls in airplane lavatories and possessing a large collection of child pornography. The 37-year-old now faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison for child exploitation.

Thompson’s illicit activities came to light when he was caught attempting to covertly film a 14-year-old passenger using an iPhone that was discreetly taped to a toilet seat. Further investigations revealed a series of hidden bathroom videos featuring girls aged 7, 9, 11, and 14, all captured during different flights in 2023. Additionally, authorities discovered a significant amount of AI-generated child pornography in Thompson’s iCloud account.

The former flight attendant was apprehended in September 2023 while on a Boston-bound flight. After escorting a 14-year-old girl to the lavatory, Thompson requested to enter first under the pretense of washing his hands, mentioning that the toilet seat was malfunctioning. The young passenger discovered the hidden iPhone concealed beneath red maintenance stickers on the toilet seat, took photos as evidence, and promptly informed her parents.

When confronted by the girl’s father, Thompson retreated into the lavatory and attempted to erase all evidence by restoring his phone to factory settings. Subsequent searches uncovered additional red stickers in his possession, along with incriminating recordings and images stored in his iCloud account, involving multiple underage victims.

Thompson, hailing from Charlotte, NC, confessed to charges of attempted sexual exploitation of children and possession of child pornography depicting prepubescent minors. Despite facing potential maximum sentences of 30 and 20 years for the respective offenses, a plea deal may lead to a reduced sentence of 15-20 years in prison.

In addition to the possibility of serving jail time, Thompson may be required to pay $250,000 in damages. Furthermore, two families of the victims have taken legal action against American Airlines for failing to prevent such incidents from occurring. The airline has been accused of negligence for not confiscating Thompson’s phone after being alerted by the girl’s father, which allowed him to destroy crucial evidence.

The families of the victims are seeking accountability and justice for the trauma inflicted on their children. American Airlines, in response to the lawsuits, has acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations and has taken steps to address the situation, including terminating the legal team responsible for blaming one of the victims for the incident.

The airline has expressed regret for its initial response and emphasized its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers. The disturbing case involving Thompson serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of vigilance and accountability in safeguarding vulnerable individuals from exploitation and harm.
