Murdoch Reportedly Turns on Trump, Despite Fox News Support
Despite the conservative Fox News Channel often supporting former President Donald Trump, media mogul Rupert Murdoch has reportedly lost his patience with Trump.
In a recent interview, journalist Michael Wolff shared insights into Murdoch’s feelings towards Trump, stating: “Murdoch has expressed on numerous occasions his disdain for Trump. He views Trump as a deeply unserious person, to put it mildly.”
One possible reason for Murdoch’s change in attitude towards Trump could be the former president’s current alliance with Russia in its war with Ukraine. Murdoch has publicly criticized Trump in his newspapers for “selling out” Ukraine to Russia and for initiating what he calls the “dumbest trade war in history” through imposing tariffs.
Reports suggest that after Trump’s defeat in the 2020 election to Joe Biden, Murdoch threatened to turn against him. However, after Trump’s attempts to mend the relationship, Murdoch seemed to reconsider his stance.
Despite this, Wolff claims that Trump now has the upper hand as Fox News rushes to show its support for the former president once again.
According to Wolff, Murdoch initially believed that Trump relied on Fox News for political support and that he could control the narrative by keeping Trump off the air following the January 6th Capitol riots. However, Murdoch soon realized that Fox News needed Trump more than Trump needed the network.
