The competition, organized by the World Photography Organisation, showcases a diverse collection of moments captured around the world. The entries in the Open competition, which welcomes amateur photographers, highlight a wide range of subjects and themes.

The winning and shortlisted photos from the competition offer a glimpse into stunning landscapes, cultural traditions, and unique travel experiences. From the vibrant streets of Bolivia to the rugged landscapes of Mongolia, the images capture the beauty and diversity of our planet. Each photograph tells a story and evokes a sense of wonder and curiosity.

One of the standout images is the winner in the Travel category, titled “Ask a Shaman” by Matjaž Šimic from Slovenia. The photo captures the important role of shamans in Bolivian culture, offering a glimpse into their traditional practices. Other notable entries include a striking image of Kazakh eagle hunters in Mongolia, a mesmerizing aerial view of plum trees in full bloom in Japan, and a colorful scene of alpacas in Peru’s Rainbow Mountain.

The overall winner of the Open Photographer of the Year will be announced in April at Somerset House in London, where the 2025 exhibition will be held. The top shots from the competition can be viewed on the awards’ website, showcasing the talent and creativity of photographers from around the world.

The competition also features categories for professionals, students, specific regions, women, and youth, highlighting the diverse perspectives and voices in the world of photography. Whether it’s capturing the beauty of nature, the richness of culture, or the everyday moments of life, the Sony World Photography Awards celebrate the power of photography to tell stories and evoke emotions.
