During the recent Spring Break festivities in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a rather unorthodox spectacle took place—a series of spontaneous boxing matches were held, complete with cryptocurrency bets being placed by onlookers.
A witness, who recorded the events unfolding on the beach, described a scene where students flocked towards a makeshift ring, with voices in the crowd discussing bets in digital currencies. “Why aren’t they playing football? Something that is not going to get people injured,” questioned Joshua Pettus, the bystander who brought attention to this beachside brawl. His curiosity peaked when he noticed the crowd engaging in what can only be described as a chaotic fusion of athleticism and gambling.
As boxing gloves were donned, Pettus felt compelled to document the unfolding drama. “Boxing gloves came out, the ring got bigger, and I knew the fight was going to start,” he recounted, capturing the moment when the beach transformed into an impromptu boxing arena.
Both male and female participants took to the “ring,” with some revelers, clad in bikinis, throwing punches as cheers erupted from the crowd.
However, this boisterous display was short-lived. The Fort Lauderdale Police intervened, dismantling the matches and ensuring compliance from the crowd. “Fort Lauderdale Police witnessed and broke up two incidents on the beach, and the crowd complied both times without further issues. There have been no reported confirmed cases of betting. This type of behavior will not be tolerated,” stated a city spokesperson, reminding everyone that the local law enforcement is not quite ready to embrace the idea of beachside boxing for cryptocurrency.
