HBO Latino and Max have officially renewed “City of God: The Fight Rages On” for a second season, following the successful debut of the series on August 25. The six-episode first season will continue to release new episodes weekly on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT, with the second episode scheduled to air on September 1.

The series, set 20 years after the events of the original film, follows Wilson (Rocket) as he returns to the City of God community. A young drug dealer’s release from prison reignites tensions in the neighborhood, with residents caught between drug dealers, militias, and government authorities. Despite the challenges they face, the community bands together to confront their oppressors and break the cycle of violence.

Alexandre Rodrigues reprises his role as Wilson from the film, alongside other returning cast members such as Thiago Martins, Roberta Rodrigues, and Sabrina Rosa. The series is written by MaĂra Oliveira, Patricia Andrade, and Paulo Lins, the author of the original novel. Produced by O2 Filmes, with Warner Bros. Discovery as executive producers, the show also features directors such as Aly Muritiba and Bruno Costa.

Fans of the original “City of God” film can look forward to more gripping storytelling and compelling performances in the upcoming season of “City of God: The Fight Rages On”. Stay tuned for more updates and episodes as the residents of City of God continue their battle for survival and justice.
