Bella Ramsey Opens Up About Coming Out as Non-Binary
Bella Ramsey recently made headlines when they came out as non-binary. In a candid interview with The Guardian, the star of HBO’s “The Last of Us” discussed their decision to go public with their gender identity. While Ramsey admitted to having some reservations about sharing this part of themselves with the world, they ultimately feel that it was the right choice.
Reflecting on the aftermath of their coming out, Ramsey expressed mixed feelings. They mentioned, “Part of me looks back and I wish that I didn’t, because I didn’t want it to become a headline and a big thing. And obviously it was going to, and I didn’t really understand that at the time.” Despite the unexpected attention, Ramsey now feels that they can live more authentically and freely without hiding this aspect of themselves.
Ramsey also acknowledged the positive impact their coming out has had on others. They shared, “So it’s been a mixed bag, but overall, I think it was a good thing, just for me living more freely, without feeling like I’m keeping a secret. But now I’m like, ‘I’ll talk about it, but I don’t want it to be the focus anymore.’ I guess I’m just quite chill with it. And I want everyone else to be as chill with it basically.”
Currently, Ramsey can be seen in Season 2 of “The Last of Us,” where they portray a key character in the popular series. The show, based on the acclaimed PlayStation game, also features a talented ensemble cast including Pedro Pascal, Gabriel Luna, Rutina Wesley, Isabela Merced, Kaitlyn Dever, and Young Mazino.
Ramsey’s bravery in sharing their journey of self-discovery and acceptance serves as a beacon of representation and empowerment for many. By openly embracing their non-binary identity, they have inspired others to live authentically and unapologetically. As Ramsey continues to shine on screen, their message of acceptance and self-love resonates with audiences worldwide.
