Noxtua: From Privacy AI Startup to Legal AI Powerhouse

In 2020, Xayn made waves as a privacy-focused on-device AI startup for smartphones. Fast forward to the present, and the company has undergone a significant transformation, rebranding as Noxtua and securing a substantial $92.2 million Series B funding round. This shift in focus has seen Noxtua pivot towards developing sovereign AI solutions tailored for the legal sector.

The Series B round was spearheaded by C.H. Beck, a prominent legal publisher in Germany with a vast repository of legal cases and judgments. This strategic partnership gives Noxtua access to C.H. Beck’s comprehensive archive and legal news wire, laying the foundation for its latest legal AI offering, Beck-Noxtua.

Joining C.H. Beck as new investors are Northern Data Group, CMS, and Dentons, bringing a wealth of expertise in high-performance computing and legal services to the table. By leveraging Northern Data’s cloud infrastructure based in Germany, Noxtua aims to deliver a highly specialized AI platform capable of researching legal matters, analyzing data, and drafting legal documents with utmost precision and compliance.

Noxtua’s AI model, trained specifically on legal contracts, sets it apart from generic AI solutions built on American or British data. Dr. Leif-Nissen LundbĂŠk, CEO and Co-Founder of Noxtua, emphasized the importance of tailoring AI models to suit the unique legal landscape of countries like Germany. With C.H. Beck’s extensive legal database serving as a cornerstone for training data, Noxtua is well-positioned to deliver accurate and legally compliant solutions.

The decision to partner with Northern Data for hosting aligns with Noxtua’s commitment to sovereignty and data security, especially in light of growing concerns around geopolitical influences on AI development and deployment. By maintaining control over the hosting infrastructure within Germany, Noxtua ensures that its legal AI remains compliant and reliable for its diverse customer base.

Professor Dr. Klaus Weber of C.H. Beck highlighted Noxtua’s role as a trailblazer in European legal AI, emphasizing the alignment of their vision with the publisher’s innovation strategy. The roots of Noxtua’s technology trace back to research conducted at prestigious institutions like the University of Oxford and Imperial College London, culminating in a groundbreaking partnership with CMS to bring their legal AI to fruition.
