CBS is shaking things up with its programming schedule by delaying the premiere of its new drama “Einstein.” Originally ordered as a pilot in August 2024, the Matthew Gray Gubler-led series won’t hit the airwaves until the 2026-2027 TV season. This decision was made because CBS felt there wasn’t enough room for “Einstein” in the upcoming 2025-2026 schedule.

The network is currently finalizing its lineup for next season and will unveil its fall 2025 plans at a press conference on May 7. While “Einstein” is being pushed back, other new shows like “Boston Blue,” “Sheriff Country,” and “FBI:CIA” have already been ordered for next season. Returning favorites include “Elsbeth,” “FBI,” “Fire Country,” and more, while shows like “Blue Bloods” and “FBI: Most Wanted” will be departing.

The delay of “Einstein” is part of a broader trend of networks taking a less rigid approach to development and programming. By holding back on premieres, CBS is ensuring it has a strong lineup in case of any future disruptions, such as production stoppages.

Based on a German format, “Einstein” follows the great-grandson of Albert Einstein, Lewis Einstein, played by Gubler, who uses his intellect to help solve crimes alongside detective Veronica “Ronni” Paris, portrayed by Rosa Salazar. The series is executive produced by Andy Breckman, Tariq Jalil, and others.

The original German version of “Einstein” was a success, running for three seasons and being distributed to over 100 territories. Various attempts have been made to adapt the show for American audiences, with previous versions not moving forward. However, CBS is hopeful that this new iteration of “Einstein” will resonate with viewers when it finally premieres in 2026.
