David Horowitz

In Memoriam: David Horowitz

In a somber turn of events, the world has lost a formidable voice in political activism and historical discourse. David Horowitz, a renowned author and founder of the Horowitz Freedom Center, succumbed to cancer on Tuesday at the age of 86.

The Horowitz Freedom Center made the announcement late Tuesday, marking the end of an era for a man whose life was dedicated to advocating for conservative principles and confronting leftist ideologies.

To honor his legacy, a retrospective video chronicling David’s extensive career was released by the Center, encapsulating his impact on American political thought.

We are deeply saddened to announce that our founder, David Horowitz, has passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 86.

Horowitz’s steadfast opposition to what he termed “communist influences” in America characterized his final years, a fitting capstone to a life of controversy and conviction.

In his last public messages, Horowitz urged Americans to engage with his book, Betrayed, which he claimed debunks numerous narratives he deemed anti-American. He emphasized the importance of understanding the nation’s history through his lens, which rejected the notion of America as inherently racist or oppressive.

Of all the books I have written, America Betrayed is the one I would like every American to read. In 60 plus pages, it refutes every anti-American lie of the left, particularly the misconception that America was ever a racist or white supremacist nation. pic.twitter.com/L8goqzZNNH

Reflecting on his career, I recall attending a speech by Horowitz at Emory University in 2007. The event was notably disrupted by leftist activists and protestors, a stark reminder of the contentious climate surrounding his public engagements. Despite the chaos, Horowitz remained undeterred in his mission to illuminate the perceived threats posed by radical ideologies.

That evening, I had the privilege of sharing coffee with Horowitz, a moment that underscored his commitment to dialogue and education amidst an increasingly polarized society.

In the wake of David’s passing, his son shared a heartfelt tribute, encapsulating the love and respect held for him by his family.

Rest in Peace to my father @horowitz39. We love you, Dad.
