Julia Garner is currently in talks for a leading role in an upcoming Netflix limited series that will delve into the rise and fall of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX, as reported by Variety. The untitled series will follow the love story of Caroline Ellison and Sam Bankman-Fried, with Garner close to finalizing a deal to portray Ellison. Netflix has greenlit eight episodes for the series, with production set to commence in the summer.
The series will be spearheaded by Graham Moore, known for his work on “The Imitation Game” and “The Outfit”, who will serve as the writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner. Jacqueline Hoyt, from “The Leftovers” and “The Good Wife”, is attached as an executive producer and co-showrunner. Former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama will executive produce under their company, Higher Ground, alongside Vinnie Malhotra. Additional executive producers include Scoop Wasserstein, Lauren Morelli, and James Ponsoldt, who will also direct the first episode.
This project marks a return for Garner to Netflix, following her acclaimed performances in “Ozark” and “Inventing Anna”. She has garnered multiple Emmy nominations and awards for her work on these series. Garner’s impressive resume also includes roles in “The Get Down”, “Maniac”, “The Americans”, and “Dirty John”. On the big screen, she is set to portray The Silver Surfer in Marvel’s upcoming “Fantastic Four” film, as well as star in the highly-anticipated horror movie “Weapons” by Zach Cregger.
Represented by UTA, LBI Entertainment, and Sloane Offer, Garner’s involvement in the FTX series adds to her already impressive body of work. FTX, founded in 2019, quickly rose to prominence as one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges globally. However, in 2022, the company faced a major downfall, leading to investigations and legal troubles for its founders, Bankman-Fried and Ellison. The series will explore the events that led to their conviction on charges of wire and securities fraud, as well as money laundering.
The storyline of the FTX limited series promises to be a gripping and insightful exploration of the cryptocurrency world’s highs and lows. With a talented team behind the project and Garner’s potential involvement, audiences can anticipate a compelling and engaging viewing experience.
