Repeat Bank Robber Mohamed Worku Found Guilty After Second Bank Heist

Just three days after being acquitted of robbing a bank in Little Village, Mohamed Worku found himself back in custody for yet another bank robbery. This time, however, he was not as fortunate as a federal jury convicted him for the crime. Worku is now set to serve a 21-month federal prison sentence, with the possibility of deportation upon release, as per court documents.

The Second Robbery

In December 2021, Worku entered a bank and handed a note to a teller demanding money with the words, “Give me the money Please Thank you.” The teller complied, giving him $492 before he left the premises. Despite his argument in court that there was no threat involved in the robbery, the jury found him guilty this time around.

Shortly after the first incident, Worku walked into Citibank in Lincoln Park and passed another note to a teller requesting money. This time, the note read, “Please Give me the money I’ll pay it back soon banker’s Gife to me in advance.” The teller handed him $2,068, and he left the bank wearing distinctive neon green gloves, a surgical mask, and a matching winter cap.

Arrest and Prosecution

Chicago police officers apprehended Worku near Lincoln and Armitage shortly after the second robbery, matching the description provided. During questioning, he allegedly mentioned intentions of acquiring a gun and engaging in a shootout if necessary. He also made threatening statements towards law enforcement.

Subsequently, federal prosecutors charged Worku with bank robbery and theft. Despite his previous acquittal, prosecutors argued that his criminal history, including multiple convictions for narcotics and robbery, should have deterred him from further criminal activities.

Ultimately, the jury convicted Worku on both counts, leading to a 21-month prison sentence.

Conclusion

Mohamed Worku’s criminal actions have resulted in a significant prison sentence and potential deportation. His repeated offenses highlight the severity of his disregard for the law and the consequences that follow. It serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the legal system and the repercussions of criminal behavior.
