New Details Emerge in Case of Man Charged with Rape and Burglary on North Side
Recent developments in the case of Tymarion Averhart have shed light on the disturbing crimes he is accused of committing on the North Side of Chicago. Prosecutors revealed shocking details during a recent detention hearing, where Averhart was ordered to be detained by Judge Rivanda Doss Beal at 26th and California.
Averhart, a 19-year-old man, was apprehended by Chicago police officers shortly after a 21-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Rogers Park. The incident occurred after Averhart made arrangements online to meet with an escort in the 1800 block of West Lunt. However, he ended up meeting with the escort’s friend and proceeded to assault her at knifepoint, prosecutors alleged.
Police had Averhart under surveillance at the time of the assault, allowing them to swiftly arrest him in the 1800 block of West Greenleaf. Upon his arrest, authorities found items belonging to a woman whose apartment had been burglarized during Christmas in the 6200 block of North Bell. This burglary was linked to another sexual assault that took place in the same residential building.
The second sexual assault occurred on December 26, when the victim woke up to find Averhart, dressed in black and wearing a face mask, looming over her bed. Despite her attempts to escape, Averhart allegedly raped her and stole valuables from her apartment. DNA evidence later connected Averhart to this assault.
Further incriminating evidence was found when, on January 10, the same woman whose apartment was previously burglarized discovered signs of another break-in. Empty drink cans, a used condom, and items with Averhart’s DNA were found in her unit, linking him to the crime.
Averhart, with no prior criminal record, faces a slew of charges including aggravated criminal sexual assault, home invasion, armed kidnapping, unlawful restraint, and residential burglary.
These disturbing revelations have sparked outrage and concern in the community, highlighting the importance of swift justice and increased vigilance in combating such heinous crimes.
