Kari Lake’s New Venture: A Controversial Partnership in Government-Funded Media

Kari Lake, serving as the Senior Advisor for the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM), has unveiled a collaboration with One America News Network (OAN), allowing for the distribution of government-funded news services, specifically through the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (OCB), at no cost.

Despite previously declaring the USAGM to be beyond repair, Lake expressed to her belief that certain components, such as OCB and Voice of America (VOA), possess redeeming qualities worth preserving.

Statements from Kari Lake

“The United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM) is thrilled to announce our new partnership with One America News Network (OAN) for the provision of newsfeed services to USAGM entities, including the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (OCB), Radio Martí, and Voice of America (VOA).

This initiative was inspired by a suggestion from OCB to consider OAN as a potential newsfeed option for our Miami-based, U.S. Government-funded operation that broadcasts to Cuba. Following their recommendation, I reached out to OAN, and they generously agreed to supply their newsfeed and video service at no cost.

This arrangement represents a significant advantage for American taxpayers, who are the exclusive financial backers of USAGM’s international news outlets.

While I do not possess editorial authority over the content of VOA and OCB programming, my role allows me to ensure that our platforms have access to credible and trustworthy news sources as they develop their reporting and programming.

Every day, I seek ways to conserve taxpayer dollars. Engaging OAN as a video/news provider accomplishes both of these goals.

OAN stands out as one of the last family-owned media networks in the United States, and we are thankful for their willingness to contribute.”
