A tragic incident of road rage in River North two years ago has led to a man being sentenced to 16 years in prison for fatally stabbing another driver. Alan Saenz Perez, 28, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree murder in the death of 36-year-old Jeremy Walker on August 23, 2022.

According to prosecutors, the altercation began when Walker was closely following Perez in traffic. Walker yelled at Perez and then cut him off at the intersection of Dearborn and Ohio. This led to a heated exchange, with Perez honking at Walker before both men exited their vehicles.

Witnesses reported seeing Perez armed with a knife as he approached Walker. Despite Walker’s attempts to defend himself, Perez managed to stab him in the neck, causing severe bleeding. Walker drove a few blocks to seek help from a Chicago police officer on Michigan Avenue, but tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Perez fled the scene without seeking help, but police were able to track him down through his vehicle’s license plate number. He initially fled to Indiana but surrendered to Chicago police two days after the incident. This was Perez’s first arrest, and he had no prior criminal record.

Judge Domenica Stephenson presided over the case and handed down the sentence. Perez will serve half of the 16-year prison term, with credit for 1,037 days earned while in jail, before being eligible for release.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of road rage and the importance of maintaining composure in challenging situations. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Jeremy Walker during this difficult time.
