First Lady Melania Trump has successfully secured a staggering $25 million investment within President Trump’s FY26 budget, aimed at providing crucial housing and support services for youth transitioning out of the foster care system. This funding marks a significant milestone in the context of the seventh anniversary of her BE BEST initiative, with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) designating these funds to bolster the Agency’s Foster Youth to Independence program (FYI).

“I am immensely proud to have secured $25 million to aid individuals aging out of foster care. This initiative is vital for ensuring the safety, welfare, and independence of those within the foster community,” stated First Lady Melania Trump.

She further elaborated, “Secretary Scott Turner’s unwavering dedication will furnish thousands of youth transitioning from the foster care system with essential rental assistance and supportive services, fostering stability and self-sufficiency.”

“This dedicated funding for foster youth is transformative, providing young adults access to short-term housing assistance and supportive services that can prevent homelessness. I express my gratitude to the First Lady for her commitment to our Nation’s foster youth through her BE BEST initiative and for advocating public-private partnerships that are making a real difference every day,” commented HUD Secretary Scott Turner.

For several years, First Lady Melania Trump has actively championed the foster care community through her BE BEST initiative, specifically the Fostering the Future program. The announcement of this significant investment is timely, coinciding with National Foster Care Month, and underscores her ongoing commitment to enhancing children’s well-being and supporting youth through BE BEST.

About the Foster Youth to Independence Program (FYI)

The FYI program, spearheaded by HUD and supported by public housing authorities nationwide, provides housing assistance to eligible individuals under the age of 25 who are transitioning out of foster care. This program is designed to thwart homelessness and create a sturdy foundation for young adults to pursue education, gainful employment, and achieve long-term independence.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, over 20,000 young people exit foster care annually. Alarmingly, a substantial percentage of these individuals encounter housing insecurity or homelessness. This financial support acts as a critical safety net during a formative period in a young person’s life.

For further information, please refer to a recent press release issued by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development here.

Background on BE BEST Launched by Mrs. Trump in 2018, the BE BEST initiative is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of children, with a renewed emphasis on supporting foster youth through programs like Fostering the Future. As we move into President Trump’s second term, Mrs. Trump remains steadfast in her pursuit of meaningful and lasting outcomes that directly enhance the lives of both current and future generations of children and youth.
