Poker Face Season 2: Burning Questions After the Premiere

Poker Face, the thrilling series from Knives Out Director Rian Johnson, has made its return to screens with its second season premiering today on Peacock in the US and Sky Max/Now in the UK. The story picks up right where we left off at the end of season one, with Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne) on the run from the criminal underworld, taking odd jobs and trying to evade those who are chasing her.

After the gripping three-episode premiere, there are several burning questions that have surfaced and are waiting to be answered throughout the remaining 12 episodes of the season. If you want to follow along with the action, you can subscribe to Peacock starting from $7.99 per month in the US, and for Now’s Entertainment membership starting from £6.99 per month in the UK.

Spoilers for the first three episodes of Poker Face season 2 below

Will the other four families catch up to Charlie?

At the end of the third episode “Whack-A-Mole”, Charlie appears to be in the clear as Rhea Perlman’s Beatrix Hasp, the head of one of the five families, decides to go into witness protection and stops the chase after Charlie. However, with three quarters of the season still ahead, it’s evident that things won’t go smoothly, and more challenges and mysteries await Natasha Lyonne’s character before the series concludes.

While Beatrix is going into hiding, it’s certain that the other four families have not given up on capturing our lie-detecting protagonist.

How does Charlie’s gift work?

Charlie’s unique ability to detect lies plays a significant role in her escapades. While she relies on this skill to navigate dangerous situations, she admits that she doesn’t fully understand how it functions. Will the series delve deeper into the mechanics of her gift, or will it remain a mystery?

The trailer hints at further tests of Charlie’s lie-detecting abilities, with guest star John Cho adding another layer of intrigue.

Will any characters show up further down the line?

While many episodes in Poker Face are standalone, some characters manage to survive and avoid fatal encounters. Cynthia Erivo, an Oscar nominee, appears in multiple roles in the premiere episode, forming a bond with Charlie’s character. Their shared aspirations for a peaceful life together raise the question of whether we will see their dreams materialize amidst the ongoing chaos in Charlie’s life.

Will Charlie join the FBI?

Luca, Charlie’s ally in the FBI, has suggested that she would be a valuable addition to the bureau. Could we witness Charlie transitioning from a freelance sleuth to a professional investigator? The possibility remains open as the series unfolds.

Will Charlie ever get to live a normal life?

The ultimate question lingers: Can Charlie break free from her tumultuous past and the relentless pursuit of those seeking to harm her? The journey towards an answer promises to be a thrilling ride, featuring guest appearances from Akwafina, Kumail Ninjani, and Melanie Lynskey along the way.

New episodes of Poker Face are released weekly on Peacock in the US on Thursdays and on Sky Max/Now in the UK.
