President Trump made a surprise appearance on the annual SNL “Mother’s Day Message” sketch, interrupting the usual festivities to talk about current events. The show started off with the traditional Mother’s Day theme, with cast members bringing their real-life mothers on stage for a comedic bit. However, the sketch took an unexpected turn when James Austin Johnson’s Trump character barged in, declaring that he was “invading all aspects of your life.”

During his impromptu appearance, Trump joked about the new pope being from Chicago, making a reference to a vintage “Saturday Night Live” skit with a “Da Prayers” joke. He also made a quip about the possibility of the new pope, Leo XIV, sending Vice President J.D. Vance back to do his thing, referencing the untimely demise of Pope Francis shortly after meeting with Vance.

The former president also touched on the ongoing American trade issues, raising the question of whether a country can go out of business. Trump’s comedic banter continued as former cast member Cecily Strong reprised her role as Jeanine Pirro, who Trump humorously appointed as Interim U.S. Attorney in Washington.

Pirro jokingly expressed pride in joining a group of individuals known for their questionable reputations, including Russian assets, boozehounds, and those infamous for their exploits with baby animals. The skit took a bizarre turn when Colin Jost appeared as secretary of defense Pete Hegseth, engaging in a peculiar drinking ritual with Pirro.

Hegseth, portrayed as a strict non-drinker, allowed Pirro to spit alcohol into his mouth, much to the audience’s amusement. The sketch culminated in a hilarious exchange between the characters, showcasing the satirical nature of the show’s political commentary.

The cold open segment concluded with a playful interaction between the characters, leaving the audience entertained and amused by the clever comedic timing and witty dialogue. Watch the full sketch below for a dose of political satire and humor.
