Recently, GST announced two significant changes to its format, set to take effect from the upcoming Philadelphia meet in May.
The competition will now span over two days instead of three, providing a more condensed and intense experience for athletes and fans alike. Additionally, the long-distance event group, which previously included both the 3000m and 5000m races, will now only feature the former distance. As a result, winners in the long-distance event group will now receive $50,000 in prize money instead of the original $100,000.
Michael Johnson expressed his thoughts on the changes, stating, “We want to be the most flexible, adaptive, and fan-first league in sports, and we believe making these changes will improve the Grand Slam Track experience for all.”
The upcoming Grand Slam Track Philadelphia event, scheduled for May 31 to June 1, promises to be an exciting showcase of athletic talent. One of the biggest stars of the league, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, is set to compete in the short hurdles event group. The two-time Olympic champion will face tough competition from Paris Olympics gold and silver medalists Masai Russell and Jasmine Camacho-Quinn in the 100m sprint and 100m hurdles.
