Pedro Pascal Critiques Trump Administration at Cannes

The Last of Us star, Pedro Pascal, has launched a vehement critique of President Trump and his supporters during a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival.

In a passionate outburst, Pascal proclaimed, “Forget those who try to instill fear. Stand your ground. Don’t allow them to prevail.” This fiery statement serves as a rallying cry for those disillusioned by the current U.S. political climate.

Pascal, who has previously labeled himself a “socialist refugee” due to his family fleeing Chile under the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, expressed deep concern for the plight of immigrants. “It’s undoubtedly daunting for an actor to speak out on such pressing issues,” he remarked, touching on Trump’s stringent policies aimed at curbing illegal immigration.

“My desire is for everyone to feel safe and secure, and I desperately want to align myself with the narrative of progress and justice,” he continued. “As an immigrant who fled a dictatorship, I am grateful for the opportunity to grow up in the United States after seeking asylum in Denmark.”

“Had that not occurred, our fate could have been drastically different,” he added. “I will always advocate for those in need of protection.”

Comparisons to Historical Contexts

The 50-year-old actor, acclaimed for his roles in series such as Narcos, Game of Thrones, and The Mandalorian, has previously drawn parallels between Trump’s policies and those of Nazi Germany. These assertions have resurfaced in light of former Mandalorian actress Gina Carano’s recent legal actions against Disney, following her controversial dismissal.

Carano’s lawsuit hinges on the claim of a double standard, as she faced termination for equating COVID-19 vaccination mandates with the persecution of Jews in the 1930s, while Pascal, who made similar inflammatory comparisons, faced no repercussions.

This situation underscores the complexities of political expression in Hollywood, where actors navigate a fine line between personal beliefs and public perception. Pascal’s vocal stance stands in stark contrast to Carano’s experience, raising questions about the consistency of accountability in the industry.
