A tragic incident unfolded in Queens last week when a 1-month-old baby girl died from sudden infant death syndrome before being mauled by the family pit bull. The parents, Lillian Burton and her partner Christopher, spoke out in an interview with The Post, vehemently denying any involvement in their daughter’s death.

The couple claimed that their 6-week-old pit bull mix named Bella had been put down following the horrific incident. They maintained that they had no knowledge of what happened to their baby until an autopsy revealed the heartbreaking truth.

According to Christopher, their baby, Kiyanna Winfield, was alive when they all went to sleep, and they were devastated to learn that she had passed away from SIDS. He also mentioned that the baby had underlying medical issues, including a heart murmur. The dog had apparently eaten the baby’s face after she had already passed.

Initial reports suggested that the pit bull was responsible for the baby’s death, but the city medical examiner’s findings revealed otherwise. The parents were left reeling from the shocking revelation, with no cause of death publicly disclosed by the Medical Examiner yet.

The couple recounted waking up to the horrific scene, with sources indicating that a significant portion of Kiyanna’s face had been mauled. Despite the tragic turn of events, Lillian Burton emphasized that she took excellent care of her children, refuting any claims of neglect.

Their lives were further upended when they were locked out of their apartment at the Queensbridge Houses public housing complex. Neighbors reported hearing screams coming from the sixth-floor apartment before authorities arrived at the scene, adding to the heartbreaking nature of the tragedy.

The grieving parents continue to grapple with the loss of their precious daughter and the circumstances surrounding her untimely death. The community mourns alongside them as they seek closure and justice for Kiyanna Winfield.
