Violence is universally condemned, yet the tensions surrounding the Gaza situation have ignited discord even here in the United States. The latest incident involves a pro-Palestinian individual launching a firebomb attack on demonstrators advocating for the release of Israeli hostages in Boulder, Colorado, resulting in injuries to eight individuals. In typical fashion, Donald Trump has seized the opportunity to redirect blame.

Trump took to Truth Social to express his outrage:

“The horrific attack in Boulder, Colorado, WILL NOT BE TOLERATED in the United States of America. He came in through Biden’s ridiculous Open Border Policy, which has hurt our Country so badly. He must go out under ‘TRUMP’ Policy. Acts of Terrorism will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law. This is yet another example of why we must keep our Borders SECURE, and deport Illegal, Anti-American Radicals from our Homeland. My heart goes out to the victims of this terrible tragedy, and the Great People of Boulder, Colorado!”

Let’s unpack this. First and foremost, Joe Biden’s administration has not enacted an open border policy. In fact, it was Donald Trump who ran on a platform promising immediate deportations of undocumented individuals, a promise that he has yet to fulfill effectively.

It is evident that Trump’s immigration strategy is faltering. Instead of addressing the complexities of immigration reform, he appears preoccupied with feuds against institutions of higher learning, while individuals who are legally residing in the U.S. face deportation.

Trump’s insistence on blaming Biden for failures that occurred on his watch is wearing thin. The reality is that he holds the reins, and the narrative of shifting blame has lost its momentum.

Moreover, Trump’s radical rhetoric does not just fuel his base; it incites extremists across the spectrum. His policies have shown little efficacy, and if we wish to combat radicalism effectively, we must begin by reassessing the misguided policies of the previous administration.

In conclusion, the path towards a more secure and just society lies not in scapegoating political opponents but in addressing the failures of past policies. A fresh approach, one that prioritizes inclusivity and effective governance, is essential for moving forward.
