Chris Robinson, known for his iconic role as Dr. Rick Webber on the long-running ABC soap opera “General Hospital,” passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 9 at his home in Sedona, Arizona. The news was confirmed by actor MJ Allen in a heartfelt Facebook post, revealing that Robinson had been battling heart failure for some time, which ultimately led to his passing at the age of 86.

“General Hospital” paid tribute to Robinson, acknowledging his significant contribution to the show and expressing condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time. Robinson’s portrayal of Dr. Rick Webber left a lasting impact on viewers and solidified his place in the soap opera’s enduring legacy.

Hailing from Florida, Robinson began his acting career in the late 1950s as a stunt actor in various films before transitioning to television in the 1960s. He made guest appearances on popular series such as “Sea Hunt,” “77 Sunset Strip,” “Gunsmoke,” and “Perry Mason,” establishing himself as a versatile actor with a strong presence on screen.

However, it was his role as Dr. Rick Webber on “General Hospital” in 1978 that propelled Robinson to worldwide fame. As the adoptive father of Laura, played by Genie Francis, Robinson became part of the iconic “Luke and Laura” love triangle, alongside Leslie Charleson (Monica) and Denise Alexander (Lesley). The trio’s on-screen chemistry captivated audiences and solidified Robinson’s place in soap opera history.

During his time on “General Hospital,” Robinson also became known as the spokesperson for Vicks Formula 44 cough syrup, popularizing the catchphrase, “I’m not a doctor, but I do play one on TV.” After a successful nine-year run on the show, Robinson continued his soap opera career with roles on “Another World” and “The Bold and the Beautiful,” showcasing his versatility as an actor.

Robinson’s final acting appearance was in the comedy film “Just for a Week” in 2022. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, artist Jacquie Shane-Robinson, and his sons Shane, Coby, Christian, Taylor, Christopher Robinson, Christopher Lance, and Robb Walker, as well as five grandchildren.

Chris Robinson’s legacy as Dr. Rick Webber will forever be remembered by fans of “General Hospital” and the soap opera community. His talent, dedication, and memorable performances have left an indelible mark on the world of television, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
