Apple has recently unveiled its plans to enhance App Store discoverability by implementing AI tagging techniques in the developer beta build of iOS 26. This new feature aims to revolutionize how apps are categorized and discovered within the App Store ecosystem.

Despite this exciting development, the AI tags are currently only visible in the developer beta build of iOS 26 and are not yet influencing the App Store Search algorithm for public users. This means that developers can experiment with the tags in the beta version before they are fully integrated into the public App Store.

One key aspect of this update is the use of AI to extract metadata from app screenshots, a strategy that could potentially impact an app’s search ranking. App intelligence provider Appfigures speculates that this new approach could give apps a competitive edge by leveraging additional data points for ranking purposes.

Apple’s announcement at the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC 25) confirmed that screenshots and other metadata will play a crucial role in improving app discoverability. By utilizing AI techniques to extract relevant information from various sources within an app’s listing, Apple aims to streamline the categorization process and enhance the overall user experience.

Developers will have the opportunity to control which AI-assigned tags are associated with their apps, providing a level of customization and optimization for app visibility. Additionally, Apple ensures that human review processes will validate the tags before they are implemented in the public App Store.

As this new feature evolves and becomes accessible to global App Store users, developers will need to familiarize themselves with the importance of tags and how they can leverage this tool to enhance their app’s discoverability. By staying informed and proactive, developers can maximize the potential benefits of AI tagging in the App Store ecosystem.
