In a bold move amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Britain is dispatching military assets as the conflict between Israel and Iran intensifies. This announcement, made by Prime Minister Keir Starmer en route to the G7 summit in Canada, underscores the UK’s commitment to addressing regional security challenges.
“We are deploying assets to the region, including jets, to provide contingency support,” Starmer informed reporters, emphasizing his role as the UK’s prime minister. “I will maintain a clear-eyed perspective on our duties and obligations.”

Starmer’s remarks reflect a growing international concern over the conflict’s escalation, following discussions with various world leaders, including former President Trump. His comments come on the heels of Iranian media warnings that Tehran would target military bases and naval forces of the U.S., U.K., and France should they support Israel.
“We have longstanding concerns about Iran’s nuclear program, and we affirm Israel’s right to self-defense,” he stated. “However, it is imperative that we seek to de-escalate this situation.”
Meanwhile, Israeli officials have signaled a drastic shift in their approach, suggesting that the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is a potential option, with one senior figure indicating that it is not “off the table.”
“The war will conclude either with Iran voluntarily dismantling its nuclear program or with Israel rendering it impossible for Tehran to restore it,” the official conveyed to The Wall Street Journal.

As Iran continues to launch ballistic missiles at Israel, the prospect of targeting Khamenei raises the stakes dramatically, potentially igniting a broader regional conflict.

On another front, Trump recently took to Truth Social to announce a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where they purportedly found common ground in desiring an end to the conflict. “The call lasted about an hour,” Trump noted. “He believes, as do I, that the war in Israel-Iran should cease, and I made it clear that his war should also come to an end.”
