An Invercargill couple faced a chaotic travel experience when their journey to the United Kingdom was disrupted by the Iran-Israel conflict, causing them to wait and queue for over 24 hours.

Michelle Watts and her husband Martin Watts embarked on their trip from Auckland to Doha and then on to London.

Things started smoothly as they departed Auckland and enjoyed a pleasant 15-hour flight.

However, their plans took a turn when the captain announced a sudden landing in Muscat, Oman, due to security concerns related to the Iranian missile strike on Qatar.

After a few hours on the tarmac in Muscat, the passengers were allowed to continue to Doha, where they faced challenges rebooking their connecting flight to London due to the overwhelming number of affected travelers.

After enduring an eight-hour queue for rebooking, the couple thought they were finally on their way to London, only to have their new flight canceled without explanation, leading to another 11-hour wait for rebooking.

Despite the frustrations with the rebooking system, Michelle praised the professional and pleasant airport staff who were overwhelmed by the unexpected event.

The couple hoped to reach London by 2 pm UK time to attend a conference and enjoy a holiday, determined not to let the airport chaos dampen their spirits.

Overall, the experience highlighted the importance of efficient emergency planning and preparedness in handling unforeseen circumstances during travel.
