Mfpen Spring Collection 2026: Embracing the Playful Spirit of Mall Goths
As Sigurd Bank reflects on his youthful memories to inspire Mfpen’s latest spring collection, he is drawn to the DIY aesthetic of mall goths from the ’90s. While he may not have been into goth music himself, Bank appreciates the energetic vibe of their post-grunge look. He describes it as a “clowny” take on the come-as-you-are attitude, with stripes, layering, spikes, and ripped clothing creating a gender fluid and playful style. This inspiration leads him to imagine how these individuals have evolved into adults who still strive to bend the rules of traditional corporate attire.
Disrupting the conventions of tailoring has always been Mfpen’s mission, and as the brand celebrates its first decade in business with a finalist nod from the 2025 LVMH Prize, Bank continues to push boundaries in the Spring 2026 collection. Adding a touch of unexpected sensuality, lace hosiery peeks out of trousers instead of boxers, and leggings are slashed for a bold statement. The collection plays with his/her dichotomies, with gender-bending pieces like a crop top created from a woman’s shirt on a male model, paired with romantic floral carpenter pants.
Women’s pieces feature a wrap vest top that opens like a leaf in the back, as well as shorts and skirts with exposed linings. A cotton canvas topper takes inspiration from firemen’s gear, while khakis and denim achieve a worn-in look through responsible laser techniques that mimic the appearance of vintage pieces. Mfpen’s dedication to sustainability is evident as the collections are made from deadstock materials.
Bank’s attention to detail and commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional tailoring result in a collection that is both playful and sophisticated. The Spring 2026 line seamlessly blends the rebellious spirit of mall goths with a modern approach to design, creating a unique aesthetic that challenges norms and embraces individuality.
