Zohran Mamdani responded calmly to President Donald Trump’s labeling him a “communist” following his significant victory as the Democratic candidate for New York City mayor. During an appearance on “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Mamdani addressed the president’s remarks with a smile, clarifying that he is not a communist and is prepared to face Trump’s attacks.
Mamdani expressed his readiness to confront the president’s attempts to distract from his advocacy for working people, whom Trump had promised to empower but, according to Mamdani, has since betrayed. Emphasizing his identification as a Democratic Socialist, Mamdani drew inspiration from the words of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. regarding the need for a more equitable distribution of wealth in society.
Highlighting the escalating income inequality in New York City, Mamdani underscored his belief that billionaires should not exist in a time of such disparity. He emphasized the importance of fostering equality across the city, state, and country, stating his commitment to collaborating with all individuals, including billionaires, to create a more just and fair city for everyone.
