A car was sold for thirty bucks, but it turns out it was stolen by a young criminal in Michigan who was on a crime spree similar to the video game Grand Theft Auto, as per the police.

The 12-year-old suspect was caught red-handed by officers from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department as he was breaking into cars in Pontiac on Saturday, according to a statement released by Sheriff Michael Bouchard.

“Through their investigation, detectives learned the boy had taken three or four vehicles over the past month, selling at least one of them for $30,” Oakland County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

It is uncertain if the person who bought the stolen car for thirty bucks was also arrested.

The boy was arrested in Pontiac, the former home of General Motors that produced a line of cars with the same name.

Detectives had been working on the case for weeks, according to WCRZ. There was a surge in stolen cars in the area, with four being stolen from one business alone, as per the police.

Investigators from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department set up a stakeout at a parking lot on June 28 and eventually caught the young suspect breaking into a car. He was carrying a license plate when apprehended, as stated in the release.

Sheriff Bouchard expressed hope that the boy, having encountered the law at such a young age, still has an opportunity to change his ways for the better.

“This young man is on a very bad path, attempting to live his own grand theft auto,” Bouchard mentioned in the news release. “Hopefully intervention by the courts will send him on a better life path as well as stopping the constant theft from this business.”
