In a rather intriguing twist, New York City’s Democratic mayoral candidate, Zohran Mamdani, has publicly declared his disdain for billionaires, suggesting that their very existence is unnecessary. However, this aversion seems a bit paradoxical given the financial backing he has received from billionaire philanthropist George Soros, a figureMamdanihas often criticized.

The irony is palpable.

Now, that’s a plot twist.
While Mamdani has made headlines for his assertion that billionaires should not exist, it appears that his path to potentially becoming the next mayor of New York City has been paved by one such billionaireāGeorge Soros. Financial documents reviewed by The Post reveal that Soros’s philanthropic endeavors have played a significant role in bolstering Mamdaniās campaign.
In a recent appearance on NBC Newsā āMeet the Press,ā Mamdani reiterated his stance against billionaires, while simultaneously proposing to increase property taxes in affluent areas, which he labels as “richer and whiter neighborhoods.”
Over the past several years, Sorosā Open Society Foundations have indirectly contributed a staggering $37 million to the Working Families Party and at least nine other left-leaning organizations. These groups have been instrumental in Mamdani’s rise, including his surprising victory over former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary, as documented in the foundation’s records.
Since 2016, the Working Families Party, a prominent ally in Mamdaniās campaign, has received approximately $23.7 million from Soros through its fundraising arm, the Working Families Organization Inc.
