Donald Trump’s proposed legislation includes significant cuts to government programs that support lower- and middle-class Americans, all to fund a massive $975 billion tax break for the wealthiest 1% in the nation.
During a meeting with members of the White House Faith Office, Trump justified his push for the controversial bill by claiming it was a humanitarian effort. Specifically, for the benefit of wealthy individuals.
Trump argued that passing the bill was essential to “strengthen the economy” and prevent “a scenario where you, as rich and attractive individuals, would face financial ruin.”
He went on to suggest that the bill would not only enhance the financial status of billionaires but also impact their personal relationships.
“Imagine how long your spouse will stay with you. You have wealth and beauty, but she might leave you within weeks, saying, ‘Darling, I can’t bear this anymore. I have to go,’” Trump remarked.
To illustrate his point, Trump shared a conversation he claimed to have had with a wealthy yet unattractive individual.
“I spoke to a man who, despite being unattractive, was intelligent and wealthy. I told him that he should support the bill, or his wife would leave him in minutes. He agreed,” Trump recounted.
Trump’s plea on behalf of “unattractive billionaires” did not receive the intended response, as it was met with widespread internet ridicule.
Indeed, the mockery online was substantial.
