John Torode, the well-known co-host of BBC’s “MasterChef,” has finally addressed the recent allegations of racist language that have surfaced as a result of the Lewis Silkin investigation into the show’s workplace culture. In a statement shared on Instagram, Torode admitted to being the individual accused of using racial language on one occasion, dating back to 2018 or 2019.

Despite confirming that he is the subject of the allegation, Torode vehemently denied the accusations, stating that he has no recollection of the incident and does not believe it occurred as described. He emphasized that he has always held the belief that any form of racial language is unacceptable and expressed his shock and sadness at the situation.

The investigation, which primarily focused on Torode’s co-host Gregg Wallace, also examined allegations against other individuals involved in the production of “MasterChef.” Two of the ten standalone allegations were substantiated, one involving swearing and the other involving racist language attributed to Torode.

While Wallace’s departure from the show was deemed necessary following the investigation, Torode’s future with “MasterChef” remains uncertain. The BBC and producer Banijay U.K. have not yet issued a statement regarding Torode’s status in light of the upheld allegation.

The Lewis Silkin investigation, which spanned several months and included interviews with numerous witnesses, was initiated in response to reports of misconduct within the workplace. The findings have had a significant impact on the show, which has been a staple of BBC One’s programming for many years, thanks to the partnership between Torode and Wallace.

As the future of “MasterChef” hangs in the balance, with Wallace’s departure confirmed and questions surrounding Torode’s involvement, fans are left wondering about the fate of the beloved culinary competition. The show’s legacy and international success are now overshadowed by the controversy surrounding the workplace culture and the allegations of inappropriate behavior.
